U15/U16 Game Awareness Camp

Core hockey programs are based on the fundamental belief that a player's success is derived from a well planned, properly delivered progression. Our training programs build on the Core fundamentals and over time maximize each skill/system, rather then rushing development and marginalizing each skill/system. Increasing proper repetitions will increase improvement!

The Game Awareness Camp is a progression made from the Bantam Spring Program, which we have operated for the past ten years. We saw a need to develop more focus Game Awareness both offensively and defensively, due to the changes in the game. The Bantam Spring Program was very broad, with the Game Awareness Camp we will more "front sight focused" on certain 'skills' of the game that most players receive less instruction on. These other 'skills' are critical for them to advance to higher levels.

The Game Awareness Camp are for players who need help to improve their play away from the puck both offensively and defensively. Defenceman who join this camp will spend the majority of it learning to defend. The forwards will be split roughly 50/50 from offensive (puck support) to defensive play. If you have attended a Tactical/Game Awareness Camp it will be very similar expect it cover more detail and be a two month camp.

The Program

This program is about Development!

We at Core Hockey are not concerned about the score or who scores the goals. We are all about being detailed, teaching, team work and promoting life lessons!

If your young hockey player wants to be successful in his hockey career and life, its not about the end results. Its about the "process"  a person must take to be his very best. This "process" includes being a great team mate, selfless, passionate, being challenged and handling adversity. Like we tell the players, you must Be Better Every Day!

This program is designed around proper "character" traits, listening skills and details. When you mix these three traits together you develop more passion, focus and execution!

Over my time with Hockey Alberta and the Camrose Kodiak's, we released many players not due to their puck skills but more to do with what they did away from the puck. It is an area of the game that is talked about a lot, but not much real training or practice goes into it. It is very hard to teach, learn and execute compared to learning to shoot or run an offensive play. They camp allows you to receive excellent instruction and the reps to understand and improve about from the puck.

Defenceman will learn:

- Gap control, angling, stick position

- Communication and ice awareness

- Defending 1 on 1, 2 on 1, 2 on 2, 3 on 2

- Defensive zone 1 on 1 to 3 on 3

Forwards will learn:

- Change of pace, evasive moves

- Use of eyes, read, read and react, communication

- Offensive - Puck support, puck movement

- Defensive zone - 1 on 1 to 5 on 5
